Hartzler, Anna Mae
Anna Mae Hartzler died Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, at Parkview Manor in Wellman at the age of 91 years. Graveside services will be 9 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, at Lower Deer Creek Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 10 a.m. at Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church, rural Kalona. The Rev. Don Patterson and the Rev. Dick Swartzendruber will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona, where the family will greet friends from 2 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
Anna Mae was born April 26, 1918, in Haven, Kan., the daughter of Harvey J. and Elizabeth (Yoder) Miller. She attended Center Grade School in rural Kalona. On Aug. 8, 1937, she was united in marriage to Orie Wenger in rural Kalona. He died Sept. 25, 1937. On Sept. 17, 1941, she was united in marriage to Ronald E. Hartzler in rural Kalona. They lived and farmed in the Kalona community all their married life. She was a member of Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church.
Anna Mae is survived by three sons, Clayton Wenger and wife Ethel of Sebring, Fla., Galen Hartzler of Kalona and Donald Hartzler and wife Linda of Kalona; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Bertha Wenger of Wayland and Nora Dickel of Kalona.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Orie Wenger in September 1937 and Ronald Hartzler in November 2007; three sisters, Elsie Miller, Mattie Bontrager and Fannie Doolin; and two brothers, Enos Miller and Daniel Miller.
A memorial fund has been established for Hospice of Iowa.
