Hartzell "Ollie" E. Oliphant, 96, a longtime Cedar Rapids resident, passed away Friday, July 25, 2014, at the VA Health Care System in San Antonio, Texas. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 1, at Kenwood Park UMC with the Rev. Michael Metz officiating. Burial will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors.
Hartzell "Ollie" Eldon Oliphant was born May 16, 1918, to Fred and Birdie Trimble Oliphant in Toddville, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Marjorie "Marge" James on April 6, 1946, in Cresco.
Ollie proudly served in the Pacific in the U.S. Army (37th Artillery) during World War II. He was employed at Rockwell as a mechanical inspector for many years. Ollie was a member of Kenwood Park United Methodist Church, VFW No. 1, 639 Masonic Lodge and the Elks Lodge. He enjoyed travel, music, and family activities.
He is survived by his children, Janice Oliphant of San Antonio, Texas, and Larry (Debbie) Oliphant of Muskego, Wis.; grandchildren, Jana, Kari,
Nathan, Alex, Jeremy,
Delaine and Justin; great-grandchildren, Michael, Christian, Alaina, Noah, Alexa, Kaedyn, Morgan, Edwin, Hudson and Delphine; great-great-granddaughter, Brooke; and sisters, Fonda, Bonnie, Linda and Judy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marjorie; one great-grandchild; brother,
Laverne; and sisters, Opal and Betty.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to a hospice facility or charity of the
donor's choice.
