Hartung, Loras J.
Loras J. Hartung, 84, of Bellevue, passed away Sunday morning, Sept. 18, 2011, at Mill Valley Care Center, surrounded by his family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bellevue. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Visitation for Loras will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service and again after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Loras Hartung was born on Aug. 25, 1927, in Bellevue on the family farm, son of Meinrad and Ruth (Tucker) Hartung. He graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1946. After graduating, he studied three years at St. Meinrad Seminary. Loras entered the service in 1954, receiving an honorable discharge in 1956. He returned to Bellevue and farmed the family farm with his twin brother, retiring in 2004. He enjoyed picking berries, making wine and visiting family and friends. Loras was a faithful member of St. Joseph's Parish in Bellevue and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.
Those left to honor his memory include his twin brother, Lawrence (Rita) Hartung of Monticello; four sisters, Kathleen Kilburg of Bellevue, Bernice Snyder of Hazel Green, Wis., Madonna (Charles) Kirk of Bellevue, and Mary (Earl) Fischer of Dubuque; a sister in-law, Bernadine Hartung; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joseph; two brothers in-law, Leroy Kilburg and Alfred Snyder; and nephew, Daniel Snyder.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Mill Valley Care Center and Lisa with Hospice of Jackson County for their special care and compassion shown to Loras.
