Hartung, Lawrence J.
Lawrence J. Hartung, 86, of 606 Hillcrest Dr., Monticello, died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at 9:50 p.m. at Shady Rest Care Center in Cascade. Friends and relatives of Lawrence may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, where a Scripture service will be held at 4 p.m., with the Rev. Paul Baldwin officiating. Services for Lawrence will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bellevue, with the Rev. Phil Kruse officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Bellevue.
Lawrence was born Aug. 25, 1927, in Bellevue, Iowa, son of Meinrad and Ruth (Tucker) Hartung. He was a 1946 graduate of St. Joseph's High School in Bellevue. Lawrence was a retired farmer in the Bellevue area.
On Nov. 4, 1989, he was united in marriage to Rita (Noonan) Ries.
Lawrence was a member of the Bellevue Knights of Columbus-Council No. 1354.
He is survived by his wife, Rita Hartung of Monticello; stepdaughters, Maureen (Joe) McEvoy of Central City and Patricia (Jim) Kula of Hopkinton; stepgrandchildren, Brian, Jessica and Andrew McEvoy; his sisters, Kathleen Kilburg of Bellevue, Bernice Snyder of Menominee, Wis., Mary (Earl) Fischer of Cascade and Madonna (Charles) Kirk of Bellevue; and sisters-in-law, Bernadine Hartung of Preston, Ann Noonan of Cedar Rapids and Kay Noonan of Prairieburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his twin brother, Loras; a brother, Joseph Hartung; brothers-in-law, Alfred Snyder, Leroy Kilburg and Norbert, Merlin, Delbert and Richard Noonan; and a sister-in-law, Kathleen Pagani.
