Hartsock, Charles A.
A private burial for Charles A. Hartsock, 79, of Norway, Iowa, will be held Wednesday, June 1. Charles died Thursday, May 26, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a brief illness.
Charles Allen Hartsock was born Sept. 8, 1931, in Hills, Iowa, the son of Ernest L. an Clarice (Glider) Hartsock. He graduated from Oxford High School in 1949. Charles served in the United States Army during the Korean War and in the Army Reserves until 1960. He was united in marriage to Bernice Rae Kessler in Cedar Rapids in February 1956. Charles worked for Wilson and Co. for 35 years. He was a member of the Fairfax American Legion.
Charles enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and western books and movies.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice Rae of Norway; one son, Kenneth (Roberta) Hartsock of Las Vegas, Nev.; one daughter, Diane (Rick) Riley of Norway; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Darrel Hartsock of Tennessee, Robert (Elaine) Hartsock of Portland, Ore., and John Hartsock of Missouri; and one sister, Laura (Maynard) Poggenphol of North Liberty.
Preceding Charles in death were his parents; one grandson-in-law, Joe Starits; three brothers, Ernest Hartsock Jr., Lawrence Hartsock and Stanley Hartsock; and one sister, Carol Hills.
A general memorial fund has been established.
