Richard "Dick" Raymond Hart, 78, of Manchester, died Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service with Military Rites: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, at Cornerstone Community Church in Manchester, with Pastor Chris Henkaline offiating. Visitation: 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester and one hour before service Friday at the church. Family Interment: 10 a.m. Saturday at Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.
He was born Oct. 2, 1935, in Manchester, the son of Ray C. and Nellie (Speck) Hart. Dick graduated from Manchester High School in 1954. He served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958, his tour of duty included 18 months in Germany as a guard of the Nike missiles.
On Oct. 25, 1959, Dick was united in marriage to Kathleen "Kay" Cose in Waterloo. Together they resided in Manchester, and owned and operated Hart Furniture, until they retired in 1998.
Dick was a member of First Baptist Church, now Cornerstone Community Church, his entire life. He loved to fish, garden and was an avid local sports fan. His greatest joys were to attend his sons' school and college activities and to spend time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Kay of Manchester; and two sons, Douglas R. (Susan) of Lakeville, Minn. and their children, Bryan and Mason, and Thomas J. (Jolene) of Farmington, Minn., and their children, Alexander, Sabrina and Sophia.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents.
