Harry "Junior" Crippen, 84, of Clinton, died Monday, July 7, 2014, at University of Iowa Hospitals and
Clinics, Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 11, at Pape Funeral Home in Clinton. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 12, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Clinton. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery.
Junior was born in Delhi, Iowa, on Oct. 21, 1929, the son of Harry and Jessie Mae (McElwain) Crippen. Harry married Leaneta Portwine and had eight children. He later married Pauline Ralston, who passed away in 1980. Harry and Phyllis Carstensen wed in 1981.
Junior farmed off and on his entire life. He also was employed with National By-Products for eight years, M&O Railroad and a couple of lumber yards.
Junior enjoyed tractors and going to farm auctions.
Harry is survived by his wife, Phyllis; five daughters, Carol (Ed) Knight, Debra (Gary) Bute and Glory Kaegbein, all of Cedar Rapids, Pat (James) Evans of Shellsburg and Barbara (Roger) Miller of Hiawatha; three sons, Don (Joan) Crippen and Roger Crippen, both of Cedar Rapids, and Ron (Debbie) Crippen of Marion; six stepchildren, Dollie Kunde, Jess Ralston, Butch Ralston, Paul Ralston, John (Sandi) Ralston and John (Karen) Carstensen; 25 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a special helper, Joey.
Junior was preceded in death by two former wives, several stepchildren, a great-granddaughter, two brothers, three sisters, two nieces and two nephews.
