Harris, Jack R.
Jack R. Harris, 72, of Cedar Rapids, died March 3, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, March 7, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Friends may call at the chapel after 10 a.m. Monday. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Brenda; children, Rod Harris and wife Kathy of Rochester, Minn., and Perry Harris and wife Mary of Liberty, Mo.; grandchildren, Lee Harris of Independence, Mo., and Jessica Harris of Fayetteville, N.C.; and one brother, Roger Harris and wife Leona of Hurricane, Utah.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kelly; and brother, Terry.
Jack was born Aug. 2, 1938, in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of Van Norman and Lelah Opal (Wheatley) Harris. He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1960. He was united in marriage to Brenda Marie Tharp on July 30, 1977, in Delhi. He was employed for many years as a substation electrician for Iowa Electric.
Jack enjoyed antique Oliver tractors and spent many hours rebuilding and doing tractor pulls throughout Iowa. He also was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed boating, fishing, and traveling with Brenda in their motor home. Above all, Jack's greatest enjoyment was his time spent with his family.
A memorial fund has been established in Jack's honor.
