Harris, Glen Dale 'Bud'
Glen Dale “Bud” Harris, 83, a resident of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013. A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids. The Rev. Nathan Williams will officiate, with inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4 until 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Glen was born July 7, 1930, in Oelwein, Iowa. He served in the United States Army from 1951-1953 during the Korean conflict. After graduating from business college, Glen worked as an accountant for Wilson-Sinclair in Cedar Rapids. He married Doris McCammon and they had two children. Glen worked for many years as a shipping clerk at Acme Graphics in Cedar Rapids. At age 80, Glen helped out as a custodian at the North Dodge Express BP gas station in Iowa City, where the younger employees affectionately called him “Pops.”
A member of Echo Hill Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids, Glen had a deep faith in God and was a very gentle person. He was a member of American Legion Post 298. Glen liked visiting museums, volunteering at Brucemore, collecting antiques, and helping with the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign. He was a member of the Kings Daughters and Sons and enjoyed visiting Chautauqua, N.Y.
Glen is survived by a son, Bradford D. Harris of Cedar Rapids; and a daughter, Sabra A. and son-in-law Steve Sandy of Kansas City, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen R. and Helen G. Harris of Hazleton; and a brother, Paul Harris and sister-in-law, Sandy Harris of Phoenix, Ariz.
Glen will be greatly missed and will be remembered by his many friends as a kind soul who loved cats and enjoyed talking with anyone he met.
