Harriett E. (Cole) Mowery, 78, died peacefully Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014, at home surrounded by her daughters. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville.
A memorial fund has been established.
Harriett was born April 22, 1936, in Coralville, the daughter of Raymond R. and Harriet Huffman Cole. She was a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Iowa City.
Harriett's career included employment at First National Bank, Bankers Advertising, Mercy Hospital Fiscal Services and at UIHC Environmental Services.
She was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and two chapters of the Red Hat Society. Harriett liked to knit and crochet and was especially proud of the many blankets and sweaters she knitted for her family. She enjoyed reading, antiquing and attending flea markets. She had a great love for nature and all creatures, especially the birds she fed outside her windows. Most important to her was family and her four-legged companions.
Survivors include her loving daughters, Cynthia (Lew) Converse of Solon, Cheryl (Gary) Nielsen of Coralville, Carolyn (Max) Dains of Ottumwa and JoAnne (Jim) Hudachek of North Liberty; four grandsons, Nicholas (Cassandra) Ryan of Lynchburg, Va., Brandon Ryan of North Liberty and Parker and Griffin Dains of Ottumwa; and many nieces and nephews.
Harriett was preceded in death by her parents; her former spouse and father of their daughters, Ambrose Joseph "Joe" Harney; and two brothers, Raymond and Dean Cole.
