HARRIETT HOGUE
Cedar Rapids
Harriett Ann Hogue, 92, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2014, at her home, in her sleep. Harriett was born Jan. 26, 1922, in Janesville, Minn., to Frank Keyes and Elizabeth Rinden.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents; her loving husband of 68 years, Noel Edwin Hogue; a son, Charles Edward Hogue; her brother, Raymond Rinden; and her sister, Berdella Gour.
She is survived by her son, Noel Charles Hogue and his wife, Debra Paulsen-Hogue of Cedar Rapids; and several wonderful relatives in Wisconsin and Minnesota.
In 1929, when Harriett was seven years old, she moved with her family to Madison, Wis. She grew up in that vibrant city with its beautiful lakes and parks. Harriett graduated from Madison's East High School in 1940. Shortly afterward she met her husband-to-be, Ed who was stationed at Truax Field with the United States Air Corps. Harriett was married to Ed on Jan 1, 1943, in Madison Wis., and they remained happily married for 68 years until Ed's passing in August 2011.
Harriett and Ed moved to the Cedar Rapids area in 1950, when Ed graduated from the University of Wisconsin and was hired by Arthur Collins to work at Collins Radio. She had lived here ever since.
Harriett was a member of Echo Hill Presbyterian Church and before that was a member of Kenwood Park Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon and was on various committees. She particularly enjoyed participating in the weekly Kitchen Dialogue group and going out to eat with the VIPs. Harriett was also a member of the Rockwell Collins women's group, Four Score.
Harriett enjoyed reading, spending time with her friends, studying family genealogy and traveling extensively in the United States, as well as in Canada, Europe and Central America, with her husband, Ed. She enjoyed visiting Wrigley Field in Chicago for Cubs games and also traveling up to Madison for Badger football games.
Harriett was a generous lady who was dearly loved by those who knew her and she will be greatly missed by many.
Harriett's body will be cremated with services to be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 1, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. There will be no public graveside service.
Instead of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Harriett A. Hogue Memorial Fund, Echo Hill Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 11335, Cedar Rapids, IA 52410.
