Harriet Charlene (Keiper) Rinderknecht, 89, died Friday, March 16, 2018, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha from complications of a fall.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Atkins, with the Rev. Douglas Woltemath officiating. Interment will be held at St. Stephen's Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday
at the church. A memorial fund has been established.
Harriet was born on Oct. 4, 1928, in Atkins, the daughter of Elmer and Frances (Schueler) Keiper. She graduated from Atkins High School with the class of 1946. On Oct. 5, 1947, she was united in marriage to Arthur Rinderknecht at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Atkins.
During high school, Harriet worked as the Atkins switchboard operator and at Craemer's in Cedar Rapids. She worked at the Atkins Savings Bank as head cashier, officer and executive vice president, retiring after 60 years of service.
She was an active member at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher and a member of the choir. In her retirement, she volunteered for Central Lutheran School with the Scrip program.
She is survived by her children, Jolene "Jo" (Dennis) Lensch of Ankeny and Jon Arthur (Nancy) Rinderknecht of Atkins; grandchildren, Dr. Chad (Cynthia) Lensch of Ankeny and their children, Alexis Jo and Ava Charlene, Anna Jo (Matthew) Haber of Yorkville, Ill., and their son, Boden Michael, and Catherine Rinderknecht (Paul) Moritz of Solon; her niece and caregiver, Kristin Keiper of Cedar Rapids; sister, Corrine (Joe) Sutcliffe of Quincy, Ill.; brother, Tim (Susan) Keiper of Atkins; sisters-in-law, Nina Day of San Jose, Calif., and Betty Rinderknecht of Milaca, Minn., and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur; sister, Josephine Keiper; brother-in-law, Donald Rinderknecht; and sister-in-law, Lois Randolph.
The family would like to thank the staff at Mercy Medical Center and the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House for the loving care Harriet received.
