Harriet A. Johnson, 68, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Cedar Rapids. Celebration of Life: 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, at the church. Arrangements made by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Paul (Shauniqua) Coty III of Valley Stream, N.Y., Karl (LaNisha) Cassell of Cedar Rapids, Alfred (Jeannie) B. Cassell of Green Bay, Wis., Avery (Brooke) Cassell of Cedar Rapids, Brittany Johnson of Cedar Rapids and Katherine Johnson of California; grandchildren, Paul Coty IV, Jeremiah and Savannah Coty, Lydia and Solomon Cassell, Austin, Cedric, Arieana and Alexys Cassell, DaVaun Solomon, DeAushia Spiller, Logan Cassell, Laila and LaRae Johnson and Launi and Nicholas Johnson; great-grandchild, Jasmine Cassell; brother, James N. Doolin Jr. of Cedar Rapids; and sisters, Latishia "Winkie" Doolin of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Josette Doolin of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Michael Johnson.
Harriet was born July 19, 1949, in Los Angeles, Calif., daughter of James Doolin and Dorothy Robinson. She graduated from Cedar Rapids Washington High School and later received her associate's degree from Kirkwood Community College. Harriet was a secretary, then human resources manager for over 15 years at Iowa Electric Light and Power. She then became a director of human resources for Alliant Energy. In 2012, Harriet retired as an administrative liaison for Fairfax County School District in Virginia.
She was a member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids. Harriet was a woman of God and was a spiritual mentor for many.
