Harriet M. Ellison, 88, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Carlisle, passed away Nov. 1, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital.
Harriet was born March 18, 1927, in Des Moines,
Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Edith (Schooler) Conant. She was a graduate of Carlisle High School and had worked in banking and as an administrative assistant. In 1951, she married Jerold "Jake" Ellison in Fayetteville, Ark. They had been married 61 years when he preceded her in death on Oct. 23, 2012.
Together Harriet and Jake raised one daughter, Jeryl. Early on they lived in Ohio and Wisconsin, but spent the majority of their years in Carlisle.
Harriet is survived by her daughter, Jeryl (David) Cox; granddaughter, Cameron Cox; sister, Anna Mae Underwood; brothers, Charles (Karen) Conant and Marvin (Carol) Conant; and multiple nieces and nephews.
Harriet was preceded in death by her husband, Jake; her parents; and brother-in-law, Thomas Underwood.
The family will greet friends at Peterson Funeral Home in Carlisle on Saturday, Nov. 28, from 1 to 2 p.m. A short graveside service for both Harriet and Jake will follow at Scotch Ridge Cemetery for anyone who would like to attend.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Harriet's memory may be made to Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, College of the Ozarks, Carlisle United Methodist Church, or to the family, where they will be shared with multiple charitable organizations.
