Harold Wischmeyer, a loving husband, father and grandfather, peacefully passed away while surrounded by his loved ones on Tuesday, December 3, 2024. He was 88 years old.

He was born in Nebraska City, NE on October 6, 1936, but spent most of his life in Cedar Rapids where he met and married Patricia Kehne in 1956. They proudly called the southwest side of Cedar Rapids home for their 68 years of marriage.

As well as being a dedicated family man, Harold was just as devoted to his careers in life and talked proudly of being a paperboy, working at the “filling station”, being a jack-of-all-trades millwright at Square D, and always representing the working class as a business agent for the Machinist Union Local 831. He was a lifetime member of the Union.

The self-proclaimed Old Bastard was always quick with a joke and loved being the life of the party. Harold will also be remembered for his willingness to help others with their projects, his fondness for “snitching cookies”, singing to Johnny Cash, and for gulping his favorite whiskey.

Harold is survived by his wife, Patricia, his kids Wendy (Mark) Votroubek, Tracey Velky, Scott (Laurie) Wischmeyer, Kirk (Jenna) Wischmeyer, and numerous grandkids and great-grandkids.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Marcetes Wischmeyer, and his infant son, Michael.

The family will continue to celebrate his life with a private graveside service.
