Harold W. Gruwell, 88, of Marion, Iowa passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at the Hiawatha Care Center. A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM with a funeral service to follow starting at 11:00 AM. Burial to follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Harold was born January 9, 1936, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Perlie and Virginia (Speer) Gruwell. He was united in marriage to Betty (Stocker) Hull on August 31,1957 in Kirksville, Missouri. Harold worked at Wilson Foods, later Farmstead then for the Linn-Mar Community School. Harold was a member of the P-3 union. Harold enjoyed fishing, NASCAR, Hawkeye sports and attending his families’ sporting events.
Harold is survived by a son, Jerry (Nancy) Gruwell; a daughter, Pamela (Dean) Huff; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Hull; five grandchildren, Chad (Dawn) Huff, Jennifer (Brad) Gillen, Lindsey (Scott) Davis, Sloane Huff, Brad (Morgan) Gruwell; six great-grandchildren; his siblings Albert (Beverly) Gruwell, Gary (Nancy) Gruwell, Sandy (Dennis) Helgeson, David (Kay) Gruwell, Frank (Melody) Utterback, Jim Utterback, and Barb (Dennis) Smith, and many loving extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepparents, a spouse, Betty Gruwell. And a son, Michael Hull.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Harold’s family.
