Harold R. Hiner, 89, of Brooklyn, passed away on Saturday, March 20, 2021, at Grinnell Regional Hospital. Funeral service: 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 23, at Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn, with the Rev. Joyce Proctor officiating.
Visitation: 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 23, at Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn. Burial will be at the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery, Brooklyn.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be contributed to Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn. Masks and social distancing will be required at all services. Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Harold is survived by his son, George (Lori) Hiner of Brooklyn; four grandchildren, Tricia (Eric Smith) Allen of Bismark, N.D., Jennifer (Mike) Peska Senkel of Anna, Texas, Derek Hiner of Brooklyn and Justin Peska of Lewisville, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Autumn Waterbeck of Des Moines, Faith Allen of Bismark, N.D., Hunter Hiner of Brooklyn and Paisley Smith of Bismark, N.D.; one great-great-grandson, Phoenix Brown of Des Moines; and a son-in-law, Larry (Karla) Peska of Prosper, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pauline, in 2015; a daughter, Joyce Peska; and his siblings, Jake Hiner, Mary Pierce, Mildred Hiner, Kenneth Hiner, LaVina Hiner, Lola Wheeler, Glady Wheeler, Howard Hiner, Norma Michael and Neva Zigler.
Harold Robert Hiner was born May 28, 1931, at home in Poweshiek County, the son of George and Mae Allen Roby Hiner. He received his education from the Brooklyn Schools. Harold was united in marriage to Pauline Yossi on March 27, 1953, in Monticello, Iowa. When Harold was young, he worked for Rosco Ormiston, followed by 42 years for Poweshiek County, retiring in 1993. Harold also worked for Jerry and Mary Dale and Brad for many years. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Brooklyn, where he served on the Board of Trustees' and donated countless hours of his time for many church repairs. Harold loved to do all kinds of odd jobs for hire and for his family before his health declined. He enjoyed all sports and was a huge Iowa Hawkeyes fan. He was always tinkering and staying active as long as he could.
