Harold Edward Johnson, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, March 16, 2018, at Northbrook Manor Care Center in Cedar Rapids. Funeral service: 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, with visitation one hour prior to service. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Harold was born July 5, 1926, the son of Harvey and Mae (Johnston) Johnson in Chicago. He graduated from Franklin High School in 1944. Harold went on to serve in the United States Army during World War II from 1944 to 1946 with the 43rd infantry division, serving in the Philippines and occupied Japan. Harold earned two Bronze Battle Stars, the Victory Medal and several others.
He was married to Harriet Dauchy, with whom he would have celebrated 70 years of marriage on Oct. 1. Harold was employed by Dows Dairy for 33 years and owned the Dows Dairy stores for several years. He was a charter member of New Covenant Bible Church, formerly First Covenant, where he served in several different positions. He was also a member of the Marion American Legion Post 298.
Harold enjoyed many hobbies, including fishing, puzzles, model railroading, traveling to Civil War sites with Harriet and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Harriet Johnson; four children, Doug Johnson, Craig (Mary) Johnson, Sue Clark and Judie (Jim) Johnson; nine grandchildren, Aaron (Joanne) Johnson, Derek Johnson, Jamie (Kara) Johnson, Kip Johnson, Dane (Shannon) Clark, Austin Johnson, Hailey (Jim) Hatrick, Erika Johnson and Anna Johnson; and eight great-grandchildren and one on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Louise; daughter-in-law, Deeanna Johnson; and son-in-law, Paul Clark.
Memorials may be directed to New Covenant Bible Church Benevolent Fund or Bridgehaven Pregnancy Support Center in memory of Harold.
