Harold “Harry” Anthony Manhart, 92, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully at home on January 18, 2026, with his beloved wife of nearly 69 years by his side.
Visitation: 4:30-6:00 p.m., Friday, January 23, 2026, with Rosary recited at 4:00 p.m., Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Mass: 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 24, 2026, St. Ludmila Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. Burial with military honors: St. John’s Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Born on February 5, 1933, in Dubuque, Iowa, Harold was the fourth child of the late Harold and Mildred Manhart. Raised with the values of hard work and resilience, he spent his childhood working on the family farm, where he developed a lifelong love for the outdoors.
A proud veteran, Harold served his country in the U.S. Air Force for four years. Following his honorable discharge, he settled in Cedar Rapids, where he built a life defined by service and community. He dedicated years of his life to working with children, first at St. Pius X Catholic School, then driving a school bus for many years following his retirement.
Harold’s quiet generosity was perhaps best reflected in his commitment to others; over his lifetime, he donated many gallons of blood. A man of deep conviction, he was a devout Catholic, a faithful follower of Jesus Christ, and a friend of Bill W.
While he took pride in his service and his work, Harold’s greatest joy was his family. He was never more happy than being with his grandchildren and sharing with them his passions of fishing, tinkering in the garage, and working in the yard.
He touched many lives with his wisdom and humor and will be greatly missed and remembered by all who knew him.
Harold is survived by his wife, Frances; children, Greg (Dawn) Manhart, Gary (Susan) Manhart, Scott (Alice) Manhart, and Matthew Manhart; seven grandchildren, Jessica (Jacob) Deaton, Joe Manhart, Gary Manhart Jr., Whitney (Gerren) Scoon, Nick Manhart, Lydia Manhart, and Lizzy Manhart; seven, soon to be eight, great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Dorothy Ershen and Bernice Gibson; and brother, William “Bill” Manhart.
Memorials may be made to St. Ludmila Catholic Church or to a charity of your choice.
