Harold Eugene Kruse, 83, of Parnell, Iowa, passed away on February 5, 2024, at Iowa City Mercy Hospital, surrounded by family.
Born on December 13, 1940, in Iowa, Harold was the son of Paul and Elizabeth (Dykstra) Kruse. He graduated from Parnell High School in 1959 before serving in the Navy as an Apprentice Seaman from 1960 to June of 1964. Following his military service, Harold dedicated himself to farming, raising cattle and hogs until approximately 1980. He then transitioned to a career in construction in Iowa City, eventually working as a boiler operator at the University of Iowa.
Harold's passions included fishing, farming, spending time with family and friends while enjoying his Natural Lights, tackling his Find a Word puzzles, watching Westerns, and cherishing moments with his dogs Bow and Bandit.
Harold was united in marriage with May Tiernan Kruse in 1966, with whom he shared two children, Charlie and Jason Kruse, and adopted children Mary, Jean, Joyce, Ralph, CJ, and Donald. After parting ways, Harold married Sylvia Kruse of Parnell on April 9, 1994, following a decade of companionship.
Harold is survived by his wife, Sylvia Kruse; two children, Charlie (Debbie) Kruse of Arizona and Jason Kruse of Amana; adopted children Jean (Chuck) Finnegan of Oxford, Mary (Paul) Morris of Utah, and CJ Kruse of Victor; six grandchildren, Gavin (Amanda) Kruse, Vayanna Kruse, Chris (Caterna) Brown, Kyle (Lindsay) Kruse, Ashley Kruse, Quintin (Destiny) Kruse; and five great-grandchildren, Camden, Jacob, Kaylin, and Grayon Kruse and Kellen Wedo. He is also survived by his siblings David (Betty) Kruse, Robert "Bob" Kruse, Margaret Hanke Reinhart, and Mary (Dave) Dixon, along with numerous other beloved family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Elizabeth, siblings Betty Cummings, Pauline Hadenfeldt, William, Paul Jr., and Richard Kruse and adopted children Donald Kruse, Joyce (Rick) Hagen, and Ralph (Cathi) Tiernan.
A Celebration of Life honoring Harold's memory will be held at a later date.
