Harold John Duncalf, 79, died Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 2, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Newhall, with Father Craig Steimel officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery near Van Horne. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone.
A memorial fund has been established.
Harold was born May 7, 1935, near Van Horne to Delbert and Agnes (Nolan) Duncalf. He graduated in 1953 from Van Horne High School, where he played on the 1952 state fall championship baseball team.
On Nov. 24, 1955, he was united in marriage to Janice Boddicker at St. Paul Catholic Church in Newhall. As a longtime member of St. Paul, Harold had served as trustee and usher. The couple farmed in the Newhall/Shellsburg area.
Harold was on the Benton County fair board for many years. He enjoyed NASCAR, the Hawkeyes, playing cards, bowling, and his coffee friends in Newhall and at Roy's in Shellsburg.
He is survived by his wife, Janice; children, Kevin (Darcy) Duncalf of Long Grove, Denise (Robert) Thomas of Davenport, Camille (Martin) McGuire of Clive, Doria (Daniel) Knebel of Iowa City and Maria Duncalf of Mount Vernon; his grandchildren, Jill, Jenna and Cole Duncalf, Nathan Dvorak, Neil McGuire, Drew McGuire, Carsyn and Max Knebel; three great-grandchildren; his brother, Don (Marilyn) Duncalf; his sister, Ruthann (Dale) Froehlich; his sister-in-law, Karen Duncalf; stepsisters, Carol Kindl and Mary (Pat) Martin; and his aunt, Patty Petersen.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ronald; and his stepmother, Rozella Duncalf.
