Harold J. Crowley, 92, of Hopkinton, died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2016, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, at St. Luke Catholic Church in Hopkinton. Visitation will continue from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Castle Grove. The Rev. Paul Baldwin will officiate, with Deacon Ed Goldsmith assisting.
Harold was born April 6, 1924, in rural Linn County, the son of John "Jack" and Alice (McCrea) Crowley. He married Mary Jane Lahey on Aug. 16, 1945, in Castle Grove. Together they farmed in the Castle Grove area until 1975, when they moved to Hopkinton. He continued to work on the farm and help others as long as he could.
Survivors include his children, Terry (Carol) Crowley of Coggon, and Bonnie (Jim) Thomas and Becky (Joe) Peiffer, both of Marion; grandchildren, Susan (Gregg) Scharnau, Jeff (Tina) Thomas, Scott (Jill) Crowley, Brian Crowley, Austin (Patricia) Peiffer, Mike (Jen) Peiffer and David Peiffer; great-grandchildren, Harry, Tucker and Lucy Thomas, Dylan, Lia, Henry and Josephine Scharnau, Chantel and Ethan Crowley and Joanna Peiffer; and sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Crowley, Virginia Supple and Gerry Huber.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane, in 2010; a son, Thomas; a brother, LaVerne; and in-laws, Rae Ann (Ray) Wickman, Justin Supple and Pat Huber.
A memorial fund has been established and memorials are preferred.
