Harold N. Brazell, 90, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016, at Mercy Hospice House in Hiawatha.
Visitation will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2016. The funeral Mass will be held at All Saints Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 14.
Harold was born in Harpers Ferry, Iowa, on Aug. 14, 1926, the third of four sons of Leo and Mabel Brazell. He was a proud veteran, serving in the U.S. Army during World War II (Pacific) and will be buried with military honors. He spent his working life with the phone company, retiring with U.S. West in Cedar Rapids in 1986. He enjoyed woodworking in his backyard garage, working in his large yard and socializing with his many friends, neighbors and former co-workers. He was a man of faith, a member of All Saints Catholic Church for almost 60 years. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, the Telephone Pioneers of America and the American Legion. He loved spending winters in Mesa, Ariz., and also loved the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Phoenix Suns, the Washington Warriors and any activity or sports team that included his children or grandchildren.
He shared his life with Romana (Monnie) Teslow for 59 1/2 years. They married in Cedar Rapids in 1957, and she survives. He also is survived by five children, Michelle Green (Tom) of Springfield, Ill., Kevin Brazell (Judy) of Bloomington, Minn., Lori Sagehorn (Curt) of St. Michael, Minn., Diane Hills (Blish) of Elk River, Minn., and Brian Brazell (Julie) of Naperville, Ill. Harold and Monnie have 15 grandchildren, Ryan, Adam and Austin Green, Brooke and Ellie Brazell, Reid, Drew, Sydney and Morgan Sagehorn, Alec, Blake and Elise Hills, and Lauren, Emma and Daniel Brazell. He also is survived by his sister-in-law, Donna Brubaker (Vern) of Cedar Rapids; brother-in-law, Dean Teslow (Karen) of Decorah; cousin, Jim Brazell (Wilma) of Harpers Ferry, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Maurice, John and Norbert Brazell; and sister-in-law, Anne Brazell.
