Harold Bassett was born on July 11, 1949, to Bishop Hurley and mother Charlotte Bassett in Davenport, Iowa. He graduated from Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, where he was later admitted to the athletic hall of fame for his outstanding football career. Harold went on to become an All-American football player at Iowa State University. Harold went on to pursue careers in collegiate football coaching, education and financial services.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Bishop Hurley and mother Charlotte Bassett; and his sister, Dr. Patricia Ann Bassett.
He is survived by his brothers, Hurley (Cori), Sylvester, James and Roland; and his sisters, Lovie Bassett and Dr. Carolyn (Charles) Rucker. Harold will be missed by his three daughters and six grandchildren, Claire Irvan and sons, Terrel and Thomas; Kari Bassett and son, Franklin Engesser; and Ashley Bassett and her children, Mya and Elijah Frazier and Neveah Williams.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
