Harms, Henrietta
Henrietta Harms, 92, of Monticello, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, rural Monticello, with interment in the Wayne Zion Cemetery. The Rev. Jonathon Kosec will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello.

Surviving are two children, Richard (Meg) Harms of Anamosa, and Kathleen (Robert) Holmes of Monticello; seven grandchildren, Lisa (Tim) Snider, Greg Joslin, Mike (Sue) Holmes, Lanette (Brian) Boots, Steve (Audra) Holmes, LaRae (Greg) Heyl and Michelle (Joe) Bayne; 16 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Ruth Johnson of Monticello.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herman; a daughter, Vonita Joslin in 1998; an infant brother; and her sister, Esther Bohlken.
Henrietta Catharine Dirks was born Dec. 13, 1917, at Amber, Iowa. She was the daughter of John G. and Anna Zimmerman Dirks. Henrietta received her education in the Black Oak School, near Amber. She married Herman T. Harms on Oct. 1, 1935, at the Wayne Zion Lutheran Parsonage. The couple farmed in the Amber and Center Junction area before purchasing a farm near Wyoming. The couple retired from farming in 1978, and moved to Onslow. Herman preceded her in death on July 21, 1996. Henrietta moved to the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in 2004.
She was a life long member of the Wayne Zion Lutheran where she was baptized on March 13, 1918, and confirmed her faith on March 20, 1932.
Henrietta was an avid Chicago Cubs Fan. She loved to play bingo and cards. She enjoyed her grandchildren and loved to play Uno with them.
