Harger, Verle Dean
Verle Dean Harger, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died June 29, 2012, in Bellflower, Calif., after a long illness. Services were held today at Fairhaven Memorial Park, Santa Ana, Calif.
Verle was born to Grover and Nellie (Johnson) Harger on May 29, 1930, in the back of his parent's grocery store in Urbana, lowa. During the Depression his parents moved to a farm where he attended a one-room schoolhouse. His family later moved to Cedar Rapids and he graduated in 1946 from Wilson High School.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia; daughter, Rebecca Burner; and brothers, Orland and Harold Harger.
He is survived by a son, Verle Tom Harger (Daneen) of Parker, Colo.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Annabell Weaver of Cedar Rapids.
Verle had a tire company in Wilmington, Calif., supplying tires to trucks stranded on the highway. He had this business until he retired.
Verle loved his Lord and considered everyone he met a friend. He was generous to a fault.
