Jay W. Hardymon, 71, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. A funeral service celebrating Jay's life will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 13, at Immanuel Baptist Church, Cedar Rapids, with the Rev. Dan Wiersema officiating. Private family burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce; daughters, Laura (Brad) Klaes of North Liberty and Shelly (Robert Jr.) Thompson of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Brandon and Jayden Wiley, Sam and Abby Klaes and Levi Thompson; sisters, Glenda (George) Giles of Stone Mountain, Ga., Anne (Frank) Farris of Louisville, Ky., and Katherine Inglis of Indianapolis; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jay Walton Hardymon was born March 14, 1942, in Maysville, Ky., the son of Glen and Anne (McDuffie) Hardymon. On July 2, 1972, he married Joyce K. Moore in Bethany, Okla. Jay worked as an avionics engineer at Rockwell Collins until retiring in 2004.
He was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church and enjoyed working on cars, computers and watching NASCAR. Jay loved meeting and visiting with new people and especially enjoyed spending time with his
grandchildren.
He will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to his family which will be distributed between Immanuel Baptist Church, 1900 F Ave. NW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52405 and/or the Anna Purna Ghosh Foundation, PO Box 1248, Cedar Rapids, IA 52406.
The family would like to especially thank Dr. Chiratan Ghosh and staff and the nursing staff at St. Luke's 5th floor.
