Hardy, Beverly J.
Beverly J. Hardy, 79, of Iowa City, died from complications of surgery, Monday, August 1, 2011, at Mercy Iowa City. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Lensing's. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. John Poggenpohl will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Iowa City Eagle's Lodge.
Bev was born June 17, 1932, in Hillsboro, Iowa, the daughter of August and Cora (Woods) Zachmeyer. She graduated from Toledo High School in 1951, and attended American Business College in Des Moines.
She married Bob Dawson in 1951, in Dillon, S.C. In 1956, Bev married Pat Murphy in Davenport, Iowa. They later divorced. Bev moved to Los Angeles in 1966, returning to Iowa City in 1996.
She was a member of Iowa City Women of the Moose and the Iowa City Eagle's Auxiliary. Bev enjoyed crocheting, playing the piano and organ and loved to cook. Above all, she was admired for her sense of humor and her love of family and friends.
She worked as a secretary in the Geology Department at the University of Iowa.
She is survived by her children, Linda Dawson Walton (Kenneth) of Willis, Texas, Larry (Joy) Murphy of Columbus Junction, and Terry (Janine) Murphy of Solon; sister, Virginia Jolls of Nassau, Minn.; grandchildren, Kenny, Valerie, Jeffrey, Patrick, Whitney, Dia and Jada; great-grandchildren, Lexie, Tate, Tristan and Micah; and close friend of 17 years, Jay Thompson of Coralville.
Bev was preceded in death by three brothers, Howard, August “Junior,” Bill; and two sisters, Dorothy and Pauline.
