Harapot, Betty Elin Like
Betty Elin Like Harapot, 90, of 202 12th St. NW, Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Dec. 12, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center. Memorial services at 1 p.m. Friday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories where friends may call after 12:30 p.m. Inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include a son, James (Julie) of Mount Vernon; and two daughters, Jane (Jim) West of Cedar Rapids, and Marty (Del) Shaw of Toddville.
She is also survived by five grandchildren, Clint (Alison) West and Robert and David Ward, Tiffany (Sean) Mann and Aundre Harapot; five great-grandchildren, Laurel and Evy West, Austin Mann, Sullivan Harapot and Sean Mann Jr.; four stepgrandchildren, Tonia (Dave) Harris, Jamie (Chad) Cozart, Jim (Michelle) Shaw and Deb Shaw; nine stepgreat grandchildren, Carl Emerson, Thomas and Michael Egger, Chaz and Shay Poole, Raygan Brown, Skylah Cozart, and Logan and Taylor Shaw; and a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley Like Hollinghead and Howard Hollinghead.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a daughter, Sue Elin Harapot Ward.
Betty was born on March 23, 1921, in Cherokee, the daughter of Henry and Lillian Weeks Like. She married George E. Harapot on Jan. 3, 1942, in Kahoka, Mo. He died in 2000. Betty was a homemaker and with her husband were founding members of the Cedar Valley Wood Carvers Association. She was an accomplished writer who wrote short stories for children, and the news letter at Kingston Hill. She enjoyed knitting, working crossword puzzles and especially the time she spent with her beloved family and many friends.
Memorial donations may be given to Kingston Hill.
