Hansen, Paul R.
Paul R. Hansen, 74, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010, in St. Luke's Hospital. Paul was diagnosed with lung cancer, but died from complications of pneumonitis. Private family services will be held at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Hansen of Cedar Rapids; his children, Lynnette Hansen of Brooklyn, Iowa, Keri Hansen of Cedar Rapids and Paulette (Daniel) Petersen of Toddville; stepchildren, Bret (Michelle) Frieden of Walford and Nichole (Randy) Brown of Manchester; grandchildren, Joshua, Justin, Anthony, Heath, Cameron, Chandler, McKenna, Ruger and Kelsey; and two great-grandchildren, Jaycee and Dante. Also surviving are his brother, Russell (Charlene) Hansen of Cedar Rapids; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dennis (Susie) Wierck of Reddington Beach, Fla., and Keith (Bonnie) Kjosa of Fairfax, Iowa; and his mother-in-law, Alice Schroeder of La Porte City, Iowa.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents.
Born Sept. 20, 1936, in Cedar Rapids, Paul was the son of Grace and Vernon Hansen. Paul graduated from Roosevelt High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1958 as an Electrician Mate on the ship Destroyer. On July 21, 1979, he was united in marriage to Kathryn Kjosa. For 28 years he worked for Quaker Oats, retiring as a machinist.
Paul “Old Timer” Hansen enjoyed fishing, playing horse shoes, golfing, hunting, bowling, bicycling and going south for the winter. Most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren and going to their sporting events.
