Hansel, Vallie 'Jay'
Vallie “Jay” Hansel, 74, of Cedar Rapids, passed away in his home on Aug. 17, 2011, following a brief illness. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 22, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include his daughter, Joleen (Gene) Jaremczuk of St. Croix Falls, Wis.; a son, Scott (Susan) Hansel of Simpsonville, S.C.; seven grandchildren, Brooke, Alana, Ryan, Austin, Arrien, Hayley and Dylan; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Kay Hansel; and his parents.
Jay was born Jan. 22, 1937, the son of Delbert and Sophie (Buhrmann) Hansel. In 1955, he enlisted and served in the U.S. Army for four years. He was assigned to the 101st Airborne as a paratrooper. Following the service he was united in marriage to Betty Kay Hansel on April 30, 1960, in Decorah, Iowa. Jay had been employed by the City of Cedar Rapids, Harnischfeger and Linn County.
He was a loving father, grandfather, and friend who will be dearly missed by all knew and loved him.
