Hansel, Kenneth Everette

Kenneth Everette Hansel, 73, of Dundee, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at his residence.

Kenneth was born Oct. 2, 1939, in Edgewood, the son of Harold and Helen (Harbaugh) Hansel. Kenneth was raised on a farm by Edgewood and later near Greeley. He was a 1958 Greeley High School graduate. Kenneth worked as a ham boner for Wilson Foods in Cedar Rapids for a year and then enlisted in the U.S. Marines. He served honorably from 1961 to 1966, then active Reserves until 1968, when he returned to Wilson Foods, which later became Farmstead Foods. He retired in March 1990.

On May 23, 1973, Kenneth was united in marriage to Joanne Shaw in Galena, Ill. They began farming in 1974 near Dundee.

Kenneth loved to watch westerns and the history channel. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, his motorcycles and four-wheelers.   Kenneth loved the time he spent with his family, especially teasing the grandchildren.   He was a member of the Colesburg American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Joanne of Dundee; daughter, Cheri (Kevin) Hildebrand of Dundee; son, Curtis (Cindy) Hansel of Waverly; daughter, Bobbie Jo (Nathan) Franzen of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren, Ashley, Mitchel, Emma, Sydney and Ella; two sisters, Donna (Arnold) Holthaus of Colesburg and Faye Joanne (Burt) Hoffman of Colesburg; one sister-in-law, Patricia Drumbarger of Cedar Rapids; two aunts, Ilo Totman of Edgewood and Ruth Harbaugh of Washington, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Junior Harold Hansel; and a great-nephew, Gary Ross.

Visitation: 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester and one hour before the service on Monday. Memorial Service:     10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with Pastor Joyce Sandberg officiating. Inurnment, with military rites: Mount Harmony Cemetery, rural Garber.
