Hancock, Dorothy Elenor Chappell
Dorothy Elenor Chappell Hancock, 92, of Keystone Place, Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital following a short illness. Memorial Services: 1 p.m. Saturday at Keystone Place by the Rev. Mike Patterson. Burial: Bethel Cemetery, Logan, Iowa. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
Dorothy is survived by four daughters, Mary Lou (Dean) Roberts of Nashville, Tenn., Patricia Nordstrum of Albuquerque, N.M., Barbara (Ken) Pitt of Cedar Rapids and Carol (William) Lynch of Omaha, Neb.; eight grandchildren, Stephanie Roberts Hull, Breck Roberts, Patrick Nordstrum, Reymond and Michael Pitt, Ryan, Nathan and David Lynch; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her son, Edward Richard Chappell; first husband, Lawrence Chappell; second husband, Robert Hancock; and brother, Richard Murto.
Dorothy was born Oct. 20, 1920, in Washington, D.C., the daughter of Richard and Thelma (Peppers) Murto. She married Lawrence Chappell on Dec. 28, 1940, in Honolulu, Hawaii. She married Robert Hancock in Albuquerque, N.M. on Jan. 2, 1988.
Dorothy was very proud of her four daughters and loved spending time with her family. She treasured all of her friends at Keystone Place especially her dear friend, Maggie. Dorothy had a passion for bridge and enjoyed teaching others how to play. Her life was filled with many interests; she was an avid reader and participated in many hobbies which included knitting, sewing, ceramics and traveling. She was very civic minded and volunteered for many organizations including, the Branson Library, the Girl Scouts and the PTA where she was a lifetime member.
