Hamilton, Harley
Harley Hamilton, 85, of Lone Tree, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011, at Iowa City Rehab and Health Care Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, at Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Lone Tree. Pastor Jeff Tackaberry will officiate. Burial will be in the Conesville Cemetery, with full military rites by the Lone Tree American Legion Post 457. Following the interment, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Conesville Community Center. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Harley was born March 7, 1926, in Trenton, Mo., the son of Elza and Myrtle (Martin) Hamilton. Harley attended country school in the Conesville and Lone Tree area, graduating from Conesville High School in 1944. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1944-1946. Harley married Gelaine Patterson and later divorced. Harley married Rachel Skala in 1962. Harley worked at Thatcher Plastics in Muscatine for 27 years as an electrician. Harley and his wife, Rachel, owned and operated the Conesville Garden Center for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Rachel of Lone Tree; daughters, Lori Lacina of West Branch, Julie (Dennis) Forbes of Lone Tree, Rebecca (Scott) McGowen of Springdale, Ark., and Ramona (Todd) Hayes of Lone Tree; son, Stephen (Joyce) Hamilton of Lone Tree; grandchildren, Jordan Burk of Iowa City, Dylan Hayes of Lone Tree, Ashley Johnson (Brandon Philips) of Center Point, Kinley Hayes and Hunter Hamilton of Lone Tree and Alex, Zach and Andi McGowen of Springdale, Arka.; one great-granddaughter, Avery Philips of Center Point; sisters, Carmen Goldesberry of Denton, Texas, Ethel Gerot of Riverside and Mary Singleton of Conesville; and a brother, Marvin Hamilton of Columbus Junction.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Don; and nephews, Chris Singleton and Gary Hamilton.
A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Harley.
