Hamdorf, Sara Elizabeth
Sara Elizabeth Hamdorf, formerly of Marion, died Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009, at Hiawatha Care Center, Hiawatha. Memorial service: 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7, at First United Methodist Church, Marion, by Mike Morgan. The family will greet friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at the church. Inurnment will take place at a later date. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Marion.
Survivors include her husband, Harlan; children, Marc (Jackie) Sharon of Concord, Calif., and Marcia (Steve) Nicholsen of Aptos, Calif.; stepchildren, Rex Hamdorf of Center Point and Leslie (John) Etheredge of Chesterfield, Va.; two grandchildren, Stacy Sharon and Stephanie Nicholsen; two stepgrandchildren, Michael and Ryan Hamdorf; and one sister, Helen McCreedy of Holland, Mich.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, James; sister, Eleanor Stewart; and brothers, Elmer Caddes and Harry Jr. Caddes.
Sara was born April 2, 1920, in Gregory, S.D., the daughter of Harry and Edna (Rankin) Caddes. She married James Sharon in 1953. He died in 1969. Sara married Harlan Hamdorf on June 3, 1972. She was the Marion Independent School nurse for 20 years, retiring in 1985. Sara was a member of First United Methodist Church, Marion.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church, Marion, or Marion Independent School System in Sara's memory.
Special thanks to Dr. Mary Anne Nelson and everyone at Hiawatha Care Center. including nurses, CNAs, social workers, activity directors, dietary manager, therapy directors, administrators, kitchen and laundry workers, and all the volunteers for their loving care and attention.
All who knew Sara loved her and are blessed with fond memories of this very special lady and know she has a special place in heaven.
