Hamberg, Helen Maxine
Helen Maxine Hamberg, 95, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, at the English Valley Care Center, North English. Celebration of Life service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 14, at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg. Pastor John Tunnicliff will officiate. Burial will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Cantril, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Powell Funeral Home.
A general memorial fund has been established.

Helen was born July 10, 1917, in Stringtown, Iowa, a daughter of Benjamin Franklin Harrison and Alice Grace (Campbell) Cortum. She attended school at Troy and Pulaski. She was a telephone operator for the Pulaski Telephone Company for many years. On Nov. 8, 1945, she was united in marriage to Edgar Burton Hamberg, in Bloomfield, Iowa. They made their home in Cantril, Vincent, Van Horne, East Amana and Conroy, Iowa. After Edgar's death in 1990, Helen moved to Williamsburg. She was a member of the Cantril Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and most of all her family.
She is survived by five children, Evelyn and Fred Paradies of Wichita, Kan., Alice and Fred Lombard of Des Moines, Karen White, Frank Hamberg and Linda and Allen Schwarting, all of Williamsburg.; eight grandchildren, Jay (Betsy) Paradies, Patti (Dave) Mort, Penny Paradies, Melody (Dexter) Hillier, Stacy (Melissa) Levell, Sabrina (Matt) Owen, Samantha (Jeremi) Lown and Craig (Tawnia Knapp) Schwarting; a granddaughter-in-law, Kathy Paradies; 13 great-grandchildren, David and Stephanie Paradies, Rachel Byrn, Christopher Paradies, Dannyelle Hillier, Leah Owen, Keyden and Kailor Lown, Autumn Burroughs, Brittany, Ryan Savannah and Sierra Levell; six great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marian Claman of Cantril.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edgar; a grandson, Bob Paradies; a son-in-law, Butch White Jr.; three sisters, Leona, Catherine and Marilyn; and a brother, Leland Cortum.
