Ham, Elizabeth 'Betty' A.
Elizabeth “Betty” A. Ham, 89, of Coralville, died peacefully Thursday, March 21, 2013, at the Solon Care Center. Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Solon, with Father James Vrba officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville. Visitation will be at St. Mary's from 9 a.m. until service time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Betty Ham Memorial Fund.
Betty was born Feb. 11, 1924, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Anna (Svobda) Zajicek. She was raised in the Cedar Rapids and Toddville area. Betty married Marvin Ham on Feb. 7, 1945, in Solon. Betty was a longtime Coralville resident. She was employed with the Iowa City Community School District for many years as a cook.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Phyllis (Ronald) Meade of Iowa City; a sister, Helen Driscoll of Marion; daughter-in-law, Sharon Ham of Montezuma; sons-in-law, Gary Haman of Iowa City and Rick Noel of Lone Tree; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son, Ron; son, Tom (who also passed away on March 21, 2013); her daughters, Patricia Haman and Bonnie Noel; siblings, Cecelia Scott and Clarence Zajicek; daughter-in-law, Dawn Ham; brother-in-law, Tom Driscoll; and one grandchild, Merrick Ham.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Solon Nursing Care Center for the compassionate care provided to Betty during her time there.
