Halsor, Richard L.
Richard L. Halsor, 82, a long time resident of Cedar Rapids, passed away May 18, 2010, surrounded by his family. Memorial services: 1 p.m. Saturday at Teahen Funeral Home by Pastor Brent Hall. Inurnment: Morrison Township Cemetery, rural Cedar Rapids. Friends may visit at the funeral home after noon Saturday.
Richard was born June 27, 1927, in Mason City, Iowa.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; sons, Michael (Linda) and Steven (Susan); daughter, Nancy (Mike) Sedlacek; and 10 grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Nancy Freeman of Colorado and Carol Anderson of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his son, Richard; great-granddaughter, Evan; and his parents.
Dick graduated from Mason City High School and was a proud graduate of Drake University. He served in the Navy during World War II. He joined General Adjustment Bureau where he became manager in 1955. In 1961, he joined United Fire and Casualty where he was a manager and vice president of the claims department until his retirement in 1992. He thoroughly enjoyed his time and colleagues at United Fire.
Dick was a past president of the Cedar Hills Booster Club, which he helped organize. He was also a past president of Blue Goose of Eastern Iowa and he served on the board of directors at Otter Creek Sportsmen's Club during his retirement. Dick especially enjoyed hunting and fishing with the boys. He and Jean traveled to many countries in Europe.
Above all, he was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who had a smile for everyone he met. When asked how he was feeling, he always responded, “Damn near perfect.”
In lieu of flowers, donations to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or the American Diabetes Association would be greatly appreciated.
