Hale, Robert 'Bob' W.
Robert “Bob” W. Hale, 82, of Iowa City, died peacefully at Mercy Iowa City on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012. Friends may visit the family on Sunday, Feb. 5, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. His remains will be buried at National Military Cemetery in Rock Island.
Bob was born to Anna M. and William P. Hale on Aug. 10, 1929, in Cedar Rapids. He attended Roosevelt High School, Iowa State University and the University of Iowa. Bob married Darilyn Dee Meyer of Grundy Center, Iowa in 1953.
He was active in the Boy Scouts and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. Bob served in a Navy ASW squadron during the Korean War. He was employed by Oral-B labs in Iowa City, retiring in 1991.
Bob also served as a Junior Achievement adviser in Iowa City. He enjoyed sports, travel, cooking, and especially retirement.
Bob is survived by his wife of 59 years; son, Scott (Kelli) of Iowa City; daughter-in law, Kris; and grandchildren, Katie and Patrick Hale of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his son, Major Jeff Hale, U. S. Air Force Ret.; his parents; and four very close friends, Bob Melonovsky and Dale Gosch of Cedar Rapids and Lowell Edmondson and Bob Burich, both of Iowa City.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Iowa City Hospice, Camp Eastman Development Association (Scouting), National Alliance on Mental Illness (MAMI), and American Heart Association.
