Hahn, Ruth Fern Stanton
Ruth Fern Stanton Hahn, 97, of Marion, died Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services: 10 a.m. Monday, March 14, at First Presbyterian Church in Marion. Family will greet friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion.
Survivors include her daughters, Julie (James) Hanson of Cedar Rapids and Mary Lee Parks of Marion; grandchildren, Michael Parks of Des Moines, James (Helen) Parks of Williamsburg and Catherine (Dana) Goshon of Marion; great-grandchildren, Jamison Parks, Hayden Parks and Morgan Goshon; brothers, Jack (Eileen) Stanton and Robert Williams; sisters, Lucylle Colbrese and Nancy Goodale; nephew, Nelson (Sharon) Newman; and good friends, Gerry (Sherry) Kneeland.
She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy on Nov. 18, 1987; eight brothers and three sisters.
Ruth was born Oct. 5, 1913, in Marion, the daughter of Ralph and Avis (Goodwin) Stanton, and was raised by her paternal grandmother, Catherine Hayes Stanton. She graduated from Marion High School in 1933. On June 12, 1945, Ruth was united in marriage to LeRoy Hahn at the home of Ned and Carrie Yeoman in Cedar Rapids. She worked as an office secretary at Biddick Lumber Co.
Ruth was a charter member and first president of Marion Business Girls, belonged to NARFE, and Postal Auxiliary 193.
Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association or First Presbyterian Church of Marion Youth in Ruth's honor.
