Hagan, John David
John David Hagan, 78, of Chandler, Ariz., died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Private funeral services will be held at Valley of the Sun chapel. Burial will be at Valley of the Sun Cemetery in Chandler.
John David Hagan was born Sept. 22, 1932, in Vinton, Iowa, the son of Howard and Ruth Hagan. He graduated from Shellsburg High School in 1950. He pursued several job opportunities, which included working for the phone company, working the wheat fields in Kansas, and driving a logging truck in Oregon, before being called to serve in the U.S. Army in Korea. After returning from Korea, he married Margaret (Pegge) Hoyt on August 11, 1956, in Oxford, Iowa. He farmed for 10 years in the Shellsburg area before changing careers and entering the computer world. He joined Automatic Data Processing and was employed as an executive for 16 years, before retiring at age 52.
He enjoyed camping, fishing and being in the great outdoors along with his fishing buddies at Alamo and San Carlos lakes. He was a member of Veterans of the Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Pegge; daughter, Sheryl of Chandler, Ariz.; son, Dave (Brenda) of Chandler; son, Kevin (Emma) of La Habra, Calif.; son, Richard of Huntington Beach, Calif.; grandchildren, Michael (Mandy), Jenni (Marc), Kevin Jr., Adam, Jess, Amanda, Nicole and Keith (Erica); his sister, Joyce Pollack; many nieces, nephews and stepgrandchildren; and his faithful yellow lab, Buddy
Preceded in death by his parents; brother, James; and sister, Suzanne.
Memorial donations can be made in honor of the American Cancer Society.
