Haerther, Verda Marie
Verda Marie Haerther, 80, of McAllen, Texas, formerly of Atkins, passed away suddenly from Sepsis and serious complications on Monday, June 10, 2013, with family nearby at the Rio Grand Hospital in McAllen. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Atkins. The Rev. Woltemath will officiate.
She is survived by one brother, Duane and wife Marguerite of Lincoln, Neb.; a sister-in-law, Irene Haerther of Cedar Rapids; a special friend, Mary Hoagland of McAllen; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three infant sisters, one brother, and one nephew.
Verda was born Oct. 12, 1932, in Atkins, the daughter of C. W. and Marie Haerther. She was a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Coffee Club, and graduated from Atkins High School in 1952. She loved sports, especially basketball and baseball, and her many trips to McAllen, Texas.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Stephen's Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements.
