Haddy, Clark J.
Clark J. Haddy, 98, of Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo, died Tuesday, May 18, 2010. Services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, May 24, at St. George Orthodox Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Fred Shaheen and the Rev. Deacon Edmond Abodeely. Burial: St. George Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be on Sunday at St. George Orthodox Church from 5 to 7 p.m., with a Trisagion service at 7 p.m. Arrangements entrusted to Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his daughters, Gloria of Marengo and Patricia of Appleton, Wis.; a son, Bradley of Mendota Heights, Minn.; a grandson, Zachariah Haddy of Eden Prairie, Minn.; a granddaughter, Anastasia Haddy of Braintree, Mass.; a great-granddaughter, Ariahla of Eden Prairie, Minn.; a brother, George; a sister, Helen Brammer; and a sister-in-law, Syriano Haddy, all of Cedar Rapids; a brother-in-law, Thomas Morrison of Helena, Ala.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Clark was preceded in death by his parents, John and Sadie Haddy; his devoted wife of 65 years, Juanita; his brothers, Edward, John, Andrew and Mike; his sisters, Mary Morrison, Josephine Skaff and Georgina Maish; brothers-in-law, Paul Skaff and Jim Brammer; and sisters-in-law, Evelyn Haddy and Marjorie Haddy.
Clark was born Oct. 20, 1911. He married Juanita Ruffin on July 3, 1932, in Cedar Rapids. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Along with his family, he operated the Cedar Valley Dairy of Cedar Rapids for 35 years. Clark and Juanita became the proprietors of the Lucky Six Bowling Lanes in Marengo from 1960 to 1979.
Although he enjoyed golfing for many years, Clark's lifelong passion was bowling, and he was an enthusiastic ambassador of this sport. He started bowling in 1930, and his accomplishments reaped many titles and awards. He was a charter member of the Cedar Rapids Bowling Hall of Fame (1976) and a member of the Iowa Bowling Hall of Fame (1983). Clark had been a member of American Legion Post 76, St. George Orthodox Church, Kiwanis Club, Eagles Club, and the Cedar Rapids Bowling Association.
The “little man with the big cigar” loved his family and his many friends. He enjoyed interacting with his fellow bowlers. Clark also humbly felt and appreciated other's respect and affection.
A memorial has been established at St. George Orthodox Church, 3560 Cottage Grove Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52403.
