Hackett, William H.
William H. Hackett, 80, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, May 7, 2012, at home. Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Thursday, May 10, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion. A rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The casket will be closed at all times, per Bill's wishes. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion.
Survivors include his wife, Teresa; children, David (Holly) Hackett of Marion, and Brenda (Mike) Evans of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren, Kyle and Courtney Hackett, and Kaitie, Mic and Garett Evans; sisters, Phyllis Culver and Linda (Randy) Davenport; brother-in-law, Donald Hagey; and sister-in-law, Mae Hackett, all of Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bob Hackett; a sister, Loretta Hagey; and brother-in-law, Loren Culver.
Bill was born Jan. 9, 1932, in Burlington Junction, Mo., the son of Harold Reid and Marcella Rose (Lyle) Hackett. After graduation from high school, Bill was enlisted in the Navy from 1952 to 1957. Following his work in the service, he attended Northwest Missouri State University. Bill married Teresa Tobin on June 22, 1957. He was retired from Special T Metals. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion and American Legion Post # 298 of Marion. Bill's family was his life. He enjoyed his five grandchildren and attended all of their activities. Bill was a very generous person and will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor's choice in Bill's memory.
