Hach, Richard P.
Richard P. Hach, 88, died Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, at Heritage Nursing & Rehab Center. Services: 1:30 p.m. Thursday, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids by the Rev. Bill Harnish with Military Honors by VFW Post No. 788. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and until service time on Thursday. Burial: Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Margaret; a son, Allan (Florence Ellen) Hach of Cedar Rapids; and a granddaughter, Ellen (Dan) Zawierucha of Pittsford, N.Y.
He is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, Virginia Leslein of Davenport, Glen Gibbs of Farley, Lorraine Boffeli of Manchester, Carol Raithel of Earlville, Lucille and Albert Holtz of Earlville; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter-in-law, Kay (Welbes) Hach.
Richard was born Aug. 8, 1921, the son of Peter and Eleanor (Pavlicek) Hach, Jr. in Cedar Rapids. On May 8, 1947, he married Margaret Gibbs in Earlville. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. Richard retired at age 57 after 23 years with the Cedar Rapids Fire Department.
He was a member of VFW Post No. 788 and American Legion Hanford Post #5.
Memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous or to the charity of the donor's choice in Richard's memory.
Richard enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. He enjoyed his music, dancing and playing cards.
