Hach, Margaret Mary (Gibbs)

Margaret Mary (Gibbs) Hach, 84, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, May 19, 2011, at West Ridge Care Center after a long illness. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 24, at St. Ludmila's Catholic Church, with Father Tom McDermott presiding. Burial will follow in Czech National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 6:30 p.m. prayer vigil. Visitation also will be one hour before services Tuesday at the church.

Margaret was born in Earlville, Iowa, on Dec. 15, 1926, the daughter of William and Anna (Klinkner) Gibbs. She married Richard Hach on May 8, 1947, in Earlville, and they lived in Cedar Rapids. Richard preceded her in death on Sept. 21, 2009, after their marriage of 62 years.

Margaret worked in the Cedar Rapids area for many years, including at CRST and Quaker Oats. Margaret was a member of St. Ludmila's Catholic Church, St. Anne's Circle for over 60 years, she sang in the funeral choir, and was a member of the American Sewing Guild for many years. Margaret enjoyed sewing, reading, cooking, golf with a hole-in-one, and she was always helping with the needy or their cause. She made heart pillows for the Mended Hearts, cancer hats and pillow cases for cancer patients.

Margaret was a loving and caring person. She was always concerned about others. Her family and friends were most important to her.

Margaret is survived by her son, Allan R. (Florence Ellen) Hach of Cedar Rapids; granddaughter, Ellen Lynn Zawierucha and husband Daniel of Sloan, N.Y.; a brother, Glen (Bud) Gibbs of Farley; four sisters, Virginia Leslein of Davenport, Lorraine Boffeli of Manchester, Carol Raithel of Earlville and Lucille (Albert) Holtz of Earlville; and her many, many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William E. Gibbs and Anna Klinkner Gibbs; brothers, William (Bill) Gibbs, Earl Gibbs and Charles Gibbs; a sister, Jean Brown Hampton; brothers-in-law, Eldon (Virginia) Leslein, Allan (Lorraine) Boffeli and Art (Carol) Raithel; sisters-in-law, Josephine (Earl) Gibbs, Theresa (Bill) Gibbs, Rose Mary (Glen) Gibbs and Betty Puccio (Glen) Gibbs; and daughter-in-law, Kay Francis Welbes (Allan) Hach.

Memorials may be directed to St. Ludmila's parish building fund or Hospice of Mercy.
