H. “Dean” Hieber, 89, of Solon, passed away on Friday, Feb. 3, 2023, at Hallmark Care Center, Mount Vernon. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre, lower level, located at 100 South Cedar St., Solon. Celebration of Life service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, located at 123 E Market St., Iowa City, IA 52245. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Solon.
Dean was born July 24, 1933, in Morse, the son of William and Ada (Koenig) Hieber. He graduated from Solon High School, class of 1951. He served in the U.S. Army, during the Korean conflict, where he was stationed in Italy. Dean was united in marriage to Lois Hamman on June 10, 1956, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Grinnell. He retired from Alliant Energy after 22 years in 1988. He enjoyed flying kites, vacationing at their summer home at Lake Okoboji, as well as spending time with his family.
Dean is survived by his wife, Lois; his children, Kevin (Joy Kruse-Hieber) Hieber and Kemra (Joe) Peska; five grandchildren, Thomas (Shelly) Hieber, William Hieber, Evan Hieber, Ashleigh (James) Ocasio and Tannor Peska; one great-granddaughter, Emmalee Hieber; sister-in-law, Phyllis McDaniel; as well as his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Billy Hieber and Karl (Jan) Hieber; his mother and father-in-law, Elaine and Ralph Hamman; and a brother-in-law, Stuart McDaniel.
Memorials may be directed to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church or to the Muscular Dystrophy Association in his name.
