Gwendolyn Reed Baker passed away Dec. 12, 2018, at a Houston, Texas, hospital after a brief illness.
She was the daughter of Florence and Ivan Reed, formerly of Martelle and Springville. Gwen was born May 25, 1931, grew up around the Martelle area and graduated from Viola High School in 1948. She attended University of Dubuque for two years before receiving her B.S. Nursing degree from St. Luke's Hospital in Chicago. She was a practicing nurse for more than 40 years in the Cedar Rapids and Houston areas.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Donald Baker, originally of Dubuque; five sons, Gary, Thomas, Steven, David and Jeffrey; 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, all living in the Houston and Chicago areas. Also surviving are her three brothers, Gareth, Caren and Keith Reed; and many nephews and nieces, all living primarily in Michigan, Illinois and California.
Services were held Dec. 20, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Houston.
