Gwendolyn Mary Bulger, age 95, passed away peacefully at Clarence Nursing Home on April 9, 2024.
Gwen was born at home on January 12, 1929 to Glen Kamerling and Mary Bloom Kamerling along with her twin brother Glen Kamerling Jr. She enjoyed growing up on the family farm and had a special memory of when the farm first got electrical power. She attended country school and then graduated high school in Lisbon Iowa. She kept busy raising her nine children and later in life worked at several area factories. She loved to garden, host family dinners, and reading was one of her favorite hobbies. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed a wonderful family dinner for Easter with many family members.
She was preceded in death by sons Thomas and William, her parents, sister Frances Hansen, brothers Donald, Robert and Glen Kamerling Jr. She is survived by her children Mary Anne (Peter) Sheets, James Bulger, Betty Jo McCabe (John Marr), Susan (Kevin) Behr, Daniel (Nan) Bulger, Robert Bulger, and Joan (Karl) Koch; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She chose cremation and no funeral. The family will hold a memorial get-together on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at the enclosed Pavilion in the main city park in Mechanicsville, Iowa, from noon to 3 pm. The family asks that no flowers be sent. Memorials in Gwen’s honor may be directed to the Mechanicsville Fire Department or the Clarence Nursing home, 402 2nd Avenue, Clarence, IA 52216 noted “Bulger Memorial for Staff."
