Gwendolyn M. McGiverin, 96, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away March 20, 2021, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. A public visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday March 23, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Following the continued guidance from health officials, physical distancing must be practiced, which requires a limited number of people allowed into the visitation at one time. The use of face masks or shields is required. Family will be holding a private service with burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Please inquire with the family about specific service information.
Gwendolyn Marie Mesler was born Sept. 26, 1924, in Creston, Iowa, the daughter of Ralph and Grace (Rankin) Mesler. She graduated from high school in Aurora, Ill.
Gwen was widowed three times. First by William F. Bell, second by Jules F. Moore, and lastly by Paul J. McGivern. Gwen worked for Century Engineering and Vigortone Ag products as a bookkeeper. She was a charter member of New Beginnings Church. When she was younger she liked to travel and later on after retirement she had many social groups that she was involved with.
Those left to honor Gwen's memory are her daughters, Maggie (Richard) Hrvol and Karin Blood; four grandsons, Michael Stevenson, RJ Blood, Randy Ironside and Matt Hrvol; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Gwen was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Connie Allman; and an aunt, Blanche Vanderlinden.
Memorial donations may be directed to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha or the American Cancer Society.
